How Rust Investor works

No hidden small print — this is exactly where every figure on the site comes from.

Where the data comes from

Rust Investor collects public information about the Rust skin market: the price they are bought and sold for on the Steam Market, the history of the in-game weekly store since 2015, and each skin's own details (collection, attributes, image). Everything updates in automatic cycles ranging from every few minutes to every hour, depending on the data.

We do not invent or estimate prices. If a figure is not available yet, the site says so explicitly instead of filling it with a made-up number.

What is real data and what is an estimate

  • Current Steam price: real data, taken directly from an active listing on the market.
  • Launch price in euros: a mathematical conversion of the dollar price at the day's exchange rate — not the exact price Steam sets for your region, which may differ slightly because Steam does not update its regional prices every day.
  • 7-day change, liquidity, all-time high/low: real data calculated from each skin's price history. A skin newly added to the store will not have this data until enough time has passed — usually about two weeks — for the calculation to be reliable. We prefer not to show the figure too early rather than show an unreliable number.
  • "Opportunity detected": an objective, visible rule (for example, "trading 30% or more below its all-time high, with real liquidity"), not a recommendation or a prediction. We never say "this is going to go up".

About future phases

Some tools (such as a machine-learning prediction) need months of accumulated history before they can be built honestly. We prefer to wait until there is enough data before launching something like that, rather than launching something unreliable just to have it sooner.

What this is NOT

Rust Investor is an information tool. Nothing here is financial advice or a recommendation to buy or sell. Prices on virtual item markets can drop to zero at any time, and buying decisions are entirely yours.
